6 places to take a hike this fall near Langley

Langley Township is surrounded by meandering rivers and lush forests. In autumn, the township is an outdoor lover’s paradise.

Whether you enjoy leisurely hikes on marked pathways or prefer a physical challenge along rugged cliffs, the region’s diverse wooded areas and nature trails promise an outdoor adventure for everyone.

From birdwatching at Tynehead Perimeter Trail to cycling at Brae Island Regional Park, here are six outdoor destinations to visit this fall near Langley Township.

1.

Salmon River Trail

With remnants of old logs and dams poking out from the river’s banks, a hike along the Salmon River Trail offers a unique glimpse into B.C.’s industrial past. Located less than 10 minutes from Latimer Heights in Langley Township, the rocky terrain of this 8.8 km trail can be challenging but crystal-clear swimming pools and rugged river rapids are a fabulous reward at the end.

Brae Island Regional Park

If you love cycling as much as strolling, then put Brae Island Regional Park on your must-do list this fall. Located 10 minutes from Latimer Heights, you’ll find well-groomed trails along the Fraser River that lead through open forests to lookouts with gorgeous views of B.C. Pack a lunch because you’ll want to stay a while.

Tynehead Perimeter Trail

Located 10 minutes from Latimer Heights, Surrey’s Tynehead Perimeter Trail is a 4.3 km lightly trafficked loop ideal for hikers of all skill levels. The trail is accessible year-round for hiking, walking, running, and cycling. Dogs are also permitted to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Derby Reach Regional Park

Just 15 minutes from Latimer Heights, you’ll find the scenic and serene Derby Reach Regional Park. Located on the banks of the Fraser River, Derby Reach features relaxing riverside trails, majestic mountain views, and lush wooded areas. Plan to be out for a couple of hours.

Hi-Knoll Park

For a simple scenic stroll through forest and meadow habitats, pack a snack and head over to Hi-Knoll Park. Located less than 15 minutes from Latimer Heights just inside the Surrey/Langley border, Hi-Knoll Park features a 1.5 km trail that is perfect for both beginners and children.

Surrey Bend Regional

At Surrey Bend Regional, located just 10 minutes from Latimer Heights, visitors will find a 12 km looped trail for hiking and cycling and viewpoints from which to watch abundant wildlife. In addition to hiking trails, the park also features three new picnic shelters and a playground.
