Wind Down Your Summer with These Activities, Calgary!

August 21, 2020

While the summer of 2020 likely felt way different than usual, it definitely wasn’t cancelled. It goes without saying that while it wasn’t feasible for some events to occur this year, there was and still is plenty to do in Calgary this year to enjoy before the season starts to wind down all within driving distance from your Copperstone home.

Here are four activities to partake in before fall rolls around:

Royal Tyrrell Museum

– Located in Drumheller, approximately an hour and a half from new homes in Copperstone, the Royal Tyrrell Museum celebrates earth’s spectacular history from everything from the earliest motes of grain and pollen to the most fearsome of dinosaurs that once roamed the earth. As the home of Canada’s only museum that is dedicated to the science of palaeontology, this is a great activity to partake in. The museum has undertaken numerous COVID-19 modifications including limiting the number of visitors at a time, advanced ticket purchasing, physical barriers and the additional implementation of hand washing facilities and hand sanitizer stations.

Calgary Zoo

– This world-class experience that is home to 1,000 animals and located in the heart of Calgary. With safety in mind, the zoo has created one-way only experience that will still guarantee an experience that fosters delight and wonderment while surrounded by nature. Indoor and outdoor viewing is open, but mask enforcement is in effect. Timed tickets are mandatory and are available on a first come first served basis.

Heritage Park

– Travel back in time from the 1950’s to the 1860’s! This incredible historical village is Canada’s largest living history museum that allows you a front row seat into life passed. While visitor experience is different, Heritage Park is just as enjoyable and educational as it always was. They’ve made numerous modifications to the museum to ensure that there is an adherence to COVID-19 practices including one-way traffic flow and train rides from Shepard station only with each ride only experiencing two full loops of the park. Be sure to check out Harvey’s Confectionery before the conclusion of your visit!

Geocaching

– Here’s an activity you can do at just about every park and natural area: geocaching. Geocaching is essentially one large treasure hunt that utilizes websites like geocaching.com that can be done close to a number of parks near your home in Copperstone. All you’ll need is the coordinates posted on the website, your enthusiasm and shrewd eye and you’ll be off to the races. The best part is? It can be done while practicing social distancing!
