About Airdrie

Airdrie was named after a village southeast of Glasgow Scotland by William McKenzie. William McKenzie, a contracting engineer for Calgary and Edmonton Railway, named the village in 1889. A unique feature of Airdrie is that its elevation makes it the highest city in Alberta. It is also one of the fastest growing communities with approximately 34,000 people located 10 minutes north of Calgary.

Airdrie is a family oriented community offering a high standard of living and focusing on building a sustainable city.  Each year residents look forward to celebrations such as the Airdrie Festival of Lights in the winter, Pro Rodeo Events, and even the Soapbox Derby competition for kids in the summer. Over 300 acres of parkland encourage enjoyment of the natural beauty all around.  Enjoy a unique quality of life with a small town lifestyle with big city amenities.
